Fun Accounting Facts!

I thought I would compile a list of all the Bookrite "Facts of the day"! Who knew accounting was so interesting!!

> Ancient Egyptians had early auditing systems, but the earliest form of bookkeeping was found in ancient Iran

> Surprisingly, Mick Jagger, Janet Jackson and Eddie Izzard all studied accountancy! All the best people do :)

> The FBI employs more than 2000 accounting special agents

> The word ‘accountant’ comes from the French word ‘compter’, which means to count or score

> The world's first accountants worked for the temples of ancient Mesopotamia!

> Only 8% of the world’s currency is actual physical money! The rest is digital, only existing on computers

> National Accounting day is celebrated on November 10th; best day of the year!

> We have an accountant to thank for bubble gum! It was invented by Walter Diemer, an accountant, in 1928

> It was accountants who brought down the infamous Chicago criminal Al Capone. Although believed to be guilty of everything from bootlegging to murder, he was ultimately arrested and convicted of tax evasion.

> The word "Bookkeeping" (along with derivations of the word), is the only word in the English language that has three consecutive double letters!

> The first ever recorded name in history belonged to an accountant who was making a record of supplies. The record read something like this;

“A total of 29,086 measures of barley were received over the course of 37 months. Signed, Kushim.”

> John Cleese’s father wanted him to be an accountant, which could be why there were so many jokes in Monty Python at the expense of accountants!!

> The word "accounting" comes from the french “compter”, meaning to count or score! Other accounting words such as "debit" and "credit" are Latin for "he owes" and "he trusts".
